After a ninth place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC), the Lady Eagles are ready to make 2010 the season to remember. In the off season, Coach Joyce Hensel spent an immense amount of time recruiting while returners took to the gym to build strength and speed.
Coach Joyce brought in a talented recruiting class for 2010, which includes two NCAA Division I transfers - 5'6" setter/outside hitter Melissa Joyce, and 5'4" defensive specialist Amber Murphy. Joyce played at UW-Green Bay for one year after playing for 1st Alliance VBC while Murphy trained at New Mexico State after contributing significantly at Hawaii-Hilo and San Jacinto Community College. In addition, Coach Joyce Hensel signed Kimberly Smith, a powerhouse middle from Indiana whose brother plays for Butler University Men's Basketball. Rounding out the 2010 class includes defensive dandy Chellore Carteciano, a transfer from Oakton Community College, talented right side Rebecca Lourwood who contributed at Celtic Force VBC, all state Tennessee outside hitter Megan Brasfield, and local talent Sydney Campbell who played at Whitney Young High School and Powerhouse VBC. We also recently added San Jacinto and Lon Morris transfer Nadejda Ivanova, who was ranked ninth in junior colleges for assists.
The talent of this year's recruiting class with the work ethic and dedication of our returning players from 2009 should make for a powerful and program-changing squad.
